You're not alone! Many golfers notice that despite practice, progress feels slow and results aren’t reflecting their effort. Even though you're trying your best your game feels stagnant, shots aren’t improving, and your handicap seems to rise instead of fall.
Physically your swing might feel stiff, shoulder or lower back pain slows you down, you'd really love if your hips could move more freely and you didn't feel fatigued.
Frustrations like these in the body, mind and on the scorecard can actually make golf feel more stressful than enjoyable!
Every round challenges your core strength, stability, and endurance. Even small imbalances or limited flexibility can impact your accuracy, power, and overall confidence.
Carrying clubs or pushing trolleys can aggravate tension in your upper body, while walking and standing for hours can leave legs and lower back tight or sore.
Some swing rotations can strain your shoulders, spine, and hips and mental fatigue, frustration over shots, or a lack of consistency can affect concentration and enjoyment.
Yoga gently opens hips, shoulders, and spine, releasing tension and building strength. With improved flexibility, you’ll notice:
A smoother, more powerful swing on every shot
Reduced stiffness and post-round soreness
Greater ease walking and playing longer rounds
Yoga helps sharpen concentration and steady your mind so that you can approach each shot with calm clarity. Benefits include:
Less frustration and more patience during your round
A sense of calm out on the course
Confidence in your swing, even under pressure
Yoga connects mind and body, building balance, stability and grace . With better flow, you’ll gain:
Improved core strength and posture for a steadier game
Lasting energy to enjoy 18 holes without fatigue
More joy and freedom in your movement and in your golf
"Golf definitely creates tension in the lower back and hips, so the deep hip stretches and movements we do in yoga are a huge help.
For the lower back, poses like cobra, plank, downward dog, and forward bends make such a difference. Balance work is also a big benefit for golf.
My shoulders used to feel under pressure, but the stretches really ease them out. At least three of us in our yoga group play golf a couple of mornings a week, and we all notice how much yoga helps.
One of the biggest challenges as we get older is a drop in energy, but after a class we leave feeling stretched, totally energised, and ready for whatever life throws at us. That’s what keeps me coming back.
We know the benefits yoga brings to our golf and to everyday life."

In my 20s, a serious life-altering accident left me with back, hip, and neck injuries. Doctors said surgery was my only option... until a yoga class changed everything.
Crawling into my first session, I left feeling relief. With continued practice, my body healed, and my surgeon simply said: “Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it.”
That transformation led me to leave a 13-year corporate career and in 1999 opened one of Ireland’s first Holistic Clinics. Since then, I specialise in helping women over 50 stay strong, flexible, and balanced.
In summer 2025, I joined the Get Into Golf programme at Swords Golf Club. I may not be a natural golfer, but I love the wonderful women I’ve met. And playing golf has only deepened my belief that yoga is a game-changer for lady golfers; easing aches, improving mobility, and boosting energy and enjoyment on the golf course.
